Damaged Decking

When a roof leaks, the obvious aftermath is damaged ceiling and interior work of the home. Most do not see the damage that is cause at the root of the problem. When we replace a roof, or shingles for a leak, we make sure the decking of the roof is not damaged. Decking can be sometimes hard to notice while shingles are still on the roof. Unless the leak is a prolonged problem, the decking may show no signs of damage. Generally, when we walk a roof for inspection, we check for sponginess and sagging. This is the easiest way to know that the decking has been compromised. Some locations of the roof do not allow us to feel for this sponginess. This is why when receiving an estimate, it is important to know that decking replacement is always a hidden cost that may appear. Luckily, at Barringer Brothers Roofing, we include the pricing for wood replacement on the bid and ensure that the customer knows what it cost for us to replace said wood.
